If you try again and can't get into that forum, email the webmaster here:

webmaster@n-ssa.net <webmaster@n-ssa.net>

I didn't think you have to register to just read it, but who can tell what the dadgum komputers might be thinkin' anyway?

Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

I might be able to offer some insight into being banned...Some boards get hit with spam and ban certain ISP addresses that are the regional source of the junk.

I have particular problems with my email.  Hotmail.com and wirelessza.co.za are automatically blocked as they originate from SA by a lot of US ISP's.   My Netzero.com account never a problem.  It's not unusual to be blocked getting into new forums.  One forum just absolutely refused me when I wanted to use hotmail.com as my email contact. I use the hootmail account for all internet work, it's my spam catcher.

I went back a forth with webmaster and he just didn't want to let me in with Hotmail and an SA ISP.  I had offer him references to get in...then the board turned out to be boring, oh well we ain't boring.

Sorry to resurrect such an old topic, but I wondered whether you knew about the SNY cannon at the old Rotunda in Woolwich, South London?

Yes thanks Bob, I was quite amazed to see that lying quietly in the "long shed" near the Rotunda when I was there in 1987.  I got a few photos of it, not great, but enough to suspect it is a 9-pounder field gun.  If you can get any better pix of the marks I'd appreciate it.  The thing that confused me was that I had always assumed it to be a War of 1812 capture piece, however the marks seem to indicate it was made by John Mason, who did not take over the Foxall foundry in Washington DC until 1816, meaning the piece would be 1816 vintage or later.  The notes on it in some of the older British museum catalogs only say something about "presumed to be American."

I have reasonably good photos of the marks. It has a different inventory number in the 1864 catalogue, but no indication of how it came into the collection.
