Cocking Indicator on Savage 99 Rifle
« on: July 25, 2003, 06:15:42 AM »
I`ve ask this question on the gunsmithing forum as well but figured I might get  good feedback here too.
Last night when touching up the scope on my 99 the cocking indicator (brass knob) fell out. Is this a user friendly exchange. Who is a supplier of this part? Thanks and good luck. POW

POW,

I'm not following you.......The cocking indicator on an M99 Savage should be a blued steel pin on top of the receiver, located just forward of the two tang screws, and just back of the squared top bolt.  Parts should be available from Numrich Gun Parts Corp.; or Savage 99 Site.

Sounds as though you've got a post S/N 1,000,000 clip-fed M99 equipped with tang safety instead of the lever safety.  I'm not aware/ever knew about there being a cocking indicator on these models.  Check out the <Savage 99.com> or <Stevepages.com> and see if there is a data sheet for your gun and check on parts involved.  Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Savage t, no it is not clip fed. It is a Savage 99 DL series A. The little brass button forward of the tang safety pops up when cocked. Found nothing on the savage website to help. Thanks. POW
