Model 4c are they still around?
« on: January 09, 2009, 02:27:56 AM »
My dad used to have a Savage clip fed bolt action. I'm pretty sure it was a model 4c. It was stolen in a break in. I loved that gun and its accuracy. Was this gun considered to be more accurate than most? Or, was I just lucky?  I don't get to many gun shows, but look at all the used gun racks I can and have yet to find one. Are there any out there looking for new homes.

I have one marked jc higgins, came with a peep site, pretty fun rifle to shoot, picked mine up at  the local pawn shop, traded a porter cable finish nailer for it!
If you look at the model interchange list at numrich gun parts, you can find out what the dep't stores labeled th 4c as,then search the gun auctions(gunbroker, auctionarms etc) for the gun that way, usually the store branded rifles bring less money than the one's with makers name on it.
What I'd like to find is an old bolt action with a tube feed magazine,as most of these will digest shorts, longs,or long rifle rounds, I wouldn't care if it were an old savage,or a mossberg, they're both pretty accurate rifles, I hava a 151k mossberg,it came from the other pawn in town, it's tube fed semi-auto,feed tube is in the buttstock, real pretty piece of real walnut for the stock. It's a tackdriver too, I shoot broken pieces of clay pigeons at the 50 yd berm till they are too small to see through the scope! It's also taken it's share of sage rats since I've owned it,and probably several thousand more before me!

Yes they are still around, infact I have one in my safe, that my dad bought before he went to Europe in 1942. Mine was getting a little rough looking, so I made it my project rifle. I purchaced a new stock, stained it, removed the front sight from the dove tail, and had my Smithy cut the barrel just behind the DT,and recrowned the BBL with an 11 degree target crown. I then parkerized the barreled action. The hardest thing to find ,was a scope mount, but I eventually did. The rings were bought from Brownells, and I found the base at a retired gunsmith from Yorba California. I put close to $300 into that little 22,But I can say it's one of a kind now. enjoy your 4C ,they were really accurate rifles, and mine still is.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check "numrich" when I get home (if I can find time). I can't get to many sites that have anything to do with guns, weapons, adult material, or forums  here at work. Of course when I'm at work is the only time I have for searching the WEB, because at home I have too much WORK to do. ;)
  Thanks Again
