Kimber 84M in 7mm-08~GOT IT!
« on: July 27, 2003, 03:38:40 PM »
Yes Sir! I went an traded off one of my Hawkin guns and a flintlock for my 2nd Kimber.  Go ahead, ask me which one I like better, the 7mm-08 or the 308......I LOVE em both!

I have never shot so well offhand as I do with these rifles. They'll put 3 in the heart for me in a 1 to 1.5 inch group at 50 yards on a deer target. Mister, these guns SSHOOT!

The other neat feature I noticed is my shoulder ain't throbbin, I ain't blacking out when I shoot, and the drinkin end of a bud can is dead meat at 200 yards every time!

I'm running Rem Core Lokts, 140 PSP in the 7mm-08, 150's in the 308. Gonna try me a box of them new Ultra Core Lokts if'n I can get my crabcrackers on some. I like the idea of 95% weight retention.

I'm so happy with these Kimber rifles I could just bust!

And they're made right here in the USA!

Kimbers are like Lays potatoe chips, bet ya can't do just one:)

Man these Kimbers are the berries!  If I can get convinced that a 308 is enough to get the job done on moose I'm gonna knock the snot outa Ina's moose with that little Kimber!

I figger that will be a proper way to break her in :D

Coug,

I'm sure that with stout, premium 180 grain bullets shot at reasonable ranges, your .308 can and will take any Moose.  Plus, with the Light Magnums available from Hornady, and the High Energy loads available from Federal, the .308 can hit like a .30-06.  You might want to take a look into these loads and see how they group in your Kimber.

Coug you gonna love that 7-08. To me it is the IDEAL deer round. Faye's old Model 7 Remington has been used by me first, then our oldest son Bobby and now her for what has got to be going on 20 years. We've used it in several states on game from deer to hogs to exotics. It has NEVER missed and NEVER needed a second shot on any game it has ever been fired on with three of us using it.

I've had two other 7-08 rifles, one another model 7 and the other my current M700 Mtn. Rifle and neither of them have ever missed or needed a second shot on game either. Recoil is light and on game performance is great.

The only factory loads we've ever used at the Remington 140 PSP and the Hornady Light Magnums. Both work great on game and both are very accurate.

I wholly agree about the performance of the 7mm-08 - it truly is an ideal whitetail cartridge.

Interestingly, there was an article some time ago that compared the big three short action calibers - .260, 7mm-08, and .308.  The editor picked the 7mm-08, and for good reason - it's accuracy is inherent from the .308 case, the .284 caliber bullet has a good combination of sectional density and weight, and recoil is light.

I have a .260, 7mm-08, and .308 (among others) and I love the 7mm-08 the best for whitetails. :-D
