HENERY H001 PROS AND CONS................
« on: March 25, 2008, 02:25:21 PM »
I looked at the Henery H001 at Wally world today. Price was 254.95 plus  5.7 % tax. For those who may have this .22 I have some questions.

1) Is it accurate ? Will  it stay on a quarter at 40 yards with a scope and a rest ??
2) Is it ammo sensitive ? Does a person have to play with diff brands to get this accuracy?
3) How is the trigger out of the box ?
4) Are low rings availabe at a reasonable price for a standard rifle scope ie not  a .22 scope?
5) Coming from Wally world i presume the price is good ?

Any thing anyone can tell me Pro or Con is of interest to me. I am trying to deciede if this is my next .22.

Thanks

I absolutely love my little Henry. It always goes to camp! Just grab a handful of ammo. Who cares what brand, my gun doesn't seem to care. very accurate for a open sight gun. a lot of fun. cant go wrong! I paid 154 a few years back at wally world! It had a gouge in the stock from customer handling. I had to Waite a while for the manager to approve my offer. But he,  finaly did. As the rifle disappeared behind the counter to be packaged up. Somehow the clerk got confused and tried to stick a Winchester 94 in the box. I could have taken advantage of the situation, but it would;nt fit ,, plus the whole serial number/Batf..etc...I do love my henry..well worth the price.

I handled and shot one a month or so ago and was VERY impressed.
They're $229 at sportsman's wharehouse.

The trigger seems decent. Accuracy was easily good enough for minute of popcan at 40yds, iron sights, offhand. Didn't shoot from a bench, though.

The henry is at the top of my list of rimfires I need!

You can't go wrong with the H001 !!! I have three Henry's and love them all. I have the H001m for myself and just purchased the H001 for my son and also have the survival for a camp gun and plinker. The scope rings i used for the mag were by Simmons ( can't remember the model # ) and put a 3x9x40 Banner scope, my smith had to remove the rear sight which i still have in case i want to go back. Both triggers break really clean with no slop or play, and also the Beautiful wood !!!
As far as accurate out of the box it shot groups that you could cover with a quarter at 25 yards with open sights. Ammo sensitive NOPE, this thing has eaten every thing I've put threw it fine with no problem.  Me and my son were out yesterday and he shot a ground hog at 60 yards and rolled him. We mainly use these weapons for hunting and the only time they really see the bench is to check for zero. Henry has OUTSTANDING customer service that can't be beat !!! The only con that i can think of is hope you have room in your safe for more.

While a few bucks more, I just brought home a H001T. It seems to shoot really well. I only had time to fire about 25 stingers this evening. Despite what the Henry Arms website shows, I'm not too impressed with the wood.

Here here....my H001T is quite the shooter also; have it set up to shoot CB Shorts & Longs with a homemade peep sight in place of the buckhorn rear. Very good close quarters fun gun, with far more accuracy at any distance than I'll ever be able to take advantage of. Yes, the wood you see on the "real" guns is usually not as impressive as that seen in the pictures...but it's like that with every gun I've come across, and still, it IS American walnut and Henrys ARE made to be used, not oogled, so I can't really complain  ;D

Kind Regards,

I had one and we never knew when it was going to go off because of the trigger pull being so rough. The inside of the receiver Under the blued side plate) looked very crude due to machining. Plastic parts. I can't say about the accuracy because of the trigger pull. It's been a few years ago and it seems like there was something else. Anyhow I wondered what else might go wrong so I got a refund. They have a lot of drop in the stock for scope shooting too. Typical lever action.

I got a LH CZ 452 with a Brook's trigger kit. Great little rifle. If I could afford it I would get an Anshutz 64 MPR .22.

My Henry fulfills the hit a quarter at 40 yards requirement, very accurate with CCI Standard Velocity bulk ammo.
The trigger is heavy and scratchy, it needs attention.
Loading the magazine tube is a bit complicated, a box magazine would be better, but of course not possible in this kind of lever action.
The action works as advertised, i.e. like there are no parts inside at all, smooth as butter.

2) Is it ammo sensitive ?- Not particularly
Does a person have to play with diff brands to get this accuracy ? - That's the norm, with all .22's
3) How is the trigger out of the box ? - Recent issue rifles have been just fine, as issued
4) Are low rings availabe at a reasonable price for a standard rifle scope ie not  a .22 scope? - $10 @ Dick's Sporting Goods
5) Coming from Wally world i presume the price is good ? - Not particularly

This went up March 25th.  My guess is that Markp has made up his mind by now.  Just a guess...
