Help from a fellow member
« on: June 24, 2008, 03:36:46 PM »
I just got a straight synthetic stock from canon6.  The absolute kindest gentleman and easiest deal.  Doug had it to me before I woke up!  I think he had NASA deliver it!  All the following stocks are synthetic.  What I did was to take the Monte Carlo off the .357 with the very low Scout sope mount and put it on the .30-06 with a 44 mm scope (higher).  I put Doug's straight stock on the .357. Then, I put 36 ounces of #4 lead shot in an old sock and put it in the Monte Carlo on the .30-06.  I had a .30.06 180gr. SP round fall to the concrete floor by accident.  It fell right on its soft nose.  I figured what the heck, it's not worth anything now, shoot it.  It shot just like my .22-250.   I forgot to mention the straight stock on the .357 scout made sighting faster and easier.

The balance point of the rifle is just about at the trigger guard.  I know most prefer a rifle to be barrel heavy, I don't.  If it's balanced, I can shoot easier with one hand if I have to, and it carries a lot better on a sling.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

I'll second that notion on canon6!  He and his wife just made over a 200 mile round trip to meet me in Big Timber to do a deal.  There's not a nicer couple around, and I felt like I had taken advantage of him on the deal!  The man is more than fair and honest.  The 7-30 waters has a new home, thank you Doug! :D ;D ;)  DP.

Never traded with canon6 but he helped me very much when I was ordering my .30/30 barrel and trying to fiqure out some loads.  He was the one to start me on Re15 which is going to be one of my favorite powders for the .30/30

Amen to both you guys.  I'd be proud to see my grandsons grow up to be like Canon6.

Stimpy, I didn't know you and I were married to the same woman!!!  How did that happen???  She's nice though, she let me off the leash for a little while.  A buddy of mine and I are headed North this evening for 2 days of fun, fishing and shooting up at his deer camp near Lake Superior.  No women, no kids or grandkids.  Just two 4 wheelers, a canoe, cabin, cookin' and eatin'.  Venison and morrels seasoned with wild leeks and wine tomorrow evening; probably a trout or two also.  The venison is backstrap from a year and a half old "venison doe" taken last December.  We'll probably throw a salad together with watercress, marsh marigold (cowslip), dandelions, morrels and leeks.  It's a rugged life living off the land, I'll tell ya!

Thanks very much for the compliment, I always try to be a good person and take pride in it; and I respect and appreciate others who are.  You're in the club too.  Pete

I've gotten a whole lot of help from so many on this sight, I can't begin to thank them all.  You who have posted here are a small part of them.  Only hope I can offer some help to others as well.  Now, Pete, how can I stow away in your suitcase? ??? ::)  DP.
