Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and soon to be new to the H&R family.  I am in the process of selling my current shotgun to replace it with an Ultra Varmint Hunter in 223 that I will have fitted with a 20 gauge Ultra Slug Hunter.  I just want the 223 for plinking and pest control and the slug gun for whitetail hunting in Illinois.  I figure that its worth the money for 2 guns in one.  But one question I forgot to ask the nice lady at H&R customer service is what do the barrels come with, extractors or ejectors? I was hoping you all could answer this question for me.  I did find out that with the 20 gauge Ultra Slug, a different fore stock would be required, but they do not have any Cinnamon fore stocks in the right size and since the Ohio Plant is moving to New York starting July 1st, ending sometime in September, they won't be producing any at that plant.  So I had her go ask the gun smith if he thought I would be able to mill out a fore stock for a 223 barrel to make it fit and he seemed to think there would be enough meat there to do so.  So the plan is to sell my current Ithaca Model 87 shotgun with combo barrels, purchase the rifle and have the new barrel fitted all before they get too far into the move.  Well any thoughts would be much appreciated and an answer to the real reason for the post of course.

Thanks,
Matt

Matt

Welcome , for what you want to do you made a very good choice , as for the forarm there is more than enough stock to work with , even for the hog of a USH barrel . You will be suprised as to just how little diffrence there is between the USH and the BB 223 .

On a side note , now that Renington has gotten their hands on H&R they seem to be doing the shell game with plants .  ???

Welcome Matt! All current production H&R centerfire rifles are extractors, rimfires and shotguns still have ejectors, at least so far, but their plans 2yrs ago were to change all over to extractors some day, hopefully they've changed their mind on that intent.

ps, The H&R plant is in Gardner MA, not Ohio, soon to be moving to the Remington facility in Ilion NY. ;)

Thanks alot for your feedback and about the plants, I got my plants mixed up, the Ithaca plant is in Ohio.  Too much information and I'm bound to get something mixed up.  Btw is there any way to retrofit an ejector to the 223 barrel?

Their plans seem to be progressing as stated.  I just brought home a new Handi in .44 magnum, and only realized when I went to shoot it that it is extractor only, not ejector.  Not a huge deal for my plans for this gun, but I can see that it could be a real PITA depending on what you want to use the gun for.

On the positive side, I'm getting two-inch 100-yard groups with Leverevolution ammo (gun is scoped), and the trigger is nice and crisp, and not too heavy.  All in all I'm very satisfied.
