Been Doing A Little Trapping
« on: May 30, 2008, 05:15:08 AM »
We saw a marauding raccoon on the property a few days ago. I like to catch these quickly for relocation because their favorite trick is to get on the roof tops to gain access to the eve's by tearing out a piece of the metal soffit. This  is a big pain cause you can get a lot of them up there quickly if that happens. The attraction (for the raccoons) at our place was cat food as I allow the Wife to feed one semi-tame cat that she didn't want to see starve back in the colder months.

Over the last few day's I was quite surprised to have caught three Robins (they love that cat food) along with one Squirrel in that big Havahart. I took to tripping the havahart early in the morning so this wouldn't happen but I didn't have to do it today as I was disgusted to find a large Opossum in there!. I will get the Raccoon, might take a few days but it will be back. And so life goes...

Relocation? If by relocation you mean by lead poisoning I understand.

Lots of ways to look at relocation...a dirt nap happens to be on of my favorite terms ;D
Friday night we had the thunderstorms & plenty of rain and I put the (unset) trap well into the open to get it washed down.
Saturday I ran the power washer on the trap and let the sun bake on it all day. I left it unset cause that Opossum scent is bad news. If you would happen to catch a Opossum in a leg hold trap the best thing that you can do is to either pull it for the season or re-boil it or you will just not catch anything at all with it.

Sunday morning at around 1:15 I was awakened by the security light on the corner eve of the garage. A quick check out of the bedroom window revealed that large coon. I got a CCI CB short in the nylon plenty quick but screwed around too long looking for my led head band light. This is usually a great combo as the porch lights work well for the yard while the head band led will let me see the iron sights on the 66.
When I flipped on the porch lights and stepped out there, the coon was no where to be seen. If it would have been in the immediate area, it would have stood on its hind legs to check things out and givin me a 10 to 15yd shot.
I will reset the trap tonight.

Steve, I can still remember the bar-b-qued coon, your siister made the home made sauce for, at your place by the tracks. Several years back? Mighty good stuff!
