daughters 1st moose
« on: September 24, 2008, 06:24:28 AM »
well I still can't figure out how to get pictures on here, but my 13yr old daughter
got her moose! It was a long 3 days we hunted in the Bighorns we only saw 4 moose.
1 on the way up the mountain, and a cow with two bulls on the 3rd day.
She had a cow tag, so we got sneaked up on them and waited for her shot.
The bulls were in rut and grunting and sparring putting on a good show.
My daughter was so nervous I could feel her heartbeating in her shoulder.
Can't blame her too much 3 1000lb+ animals milling around within 40yds of us.
When she finally got a clear shot she made it count at 30yds. She was shooting
my Horton crossbow (don't need to hear negative opinions on that, she's 13yrs old
100Lbs and can't draw a legal compound. The crossbow let's her bowhunt)
But she made a good shot, the cow ran about 30yds (toward the truck thank God!!)
and was standing behind a small spruce, she stood there for 10min. but refused to fall
over! So we got up to about 20yds and my daughter threaded an arrow thru a hole in the
limbs about the size of a baseball (I was impressed) and put her down in two more steps.
We had to pack her about 1/2 mile to the truck (thank you game cart inventor) only took
us 3 hrs to quarter her up and haul her out, I didn't think that was to bad for a 13yr old
girl and a fat mans first try at a moose. All in all it was a great hunt, and a good chance
to spend time with my daughter, who doesn't have a lot to say to dad since boys and friends
are so important these days.  Take a kid hunting!!!!

Maybe I figured it out

That's a memory to cherish.  Took my 14 yr. old daughter to WY on an antelope hunt last year and it may be her last out of state hunt until she gets out of school due to the time required.   I'll enjoy remembering it the rest of my life anyway.

Little late, wyohandi, but a big congrats to your daughter for great shooting and stalking and to you for taking her hunting. Love to see the kids getting involved in such a great sport. I especially like to see the girls out hunting because my next great hunting buddy is going to be my 6-year-old daughter.
