I wonder the effect of shooting a .311 which is what the 7.62X39 bullet is  in a .308 bore?

I haven't used that adapter, but I did try a .30-06 - .308 adapter.  It was one of those made for the Navy to convert the M1s.  You put it down the chamber with a .308 round, then when you fired the round it was supposed to expand and stick tight to the chamber.  It may have worked great in a bolt or other action, but I couldn't get the cartridge/converter into the chamber far enough to close the action.  I didn't want to pound on a live round to force it in, tried empty brass but then when I puched the brass out the converter still came with it.

Good luck if you try it, let us know how you make out!

Firing .311 bullets in a .308 bore?

In the 7.62X39, esp in the Mini-30 I've read knowledgeable writers say it wouldn't necessarily be dangerous, but could with enough rounds wear-out the bore more quickly.  In a higher pressure round, I would rethink this scenario..

As for the adapters made by Ace Dube from McAce in Alaska, I would use one in an emergency or survival situation.  What exactly would I describe as an emergency or survival situation?  To me such a scenario might be a real full-blown depression where ammo was scarce and expensive (like the one in 1929), or if ammo was outlawed, or through some fluke I didn't have enough ammo to shoot for my .308 Survivor and I had access to some 7.62X39 rounds and "needed" to shoot them now!.  In such a case I would limit my shooting to what was necessary and only as far away as the shots had to be.

I would not expect great accuracy.

As for the .308W in a .30/06 chamber, as long as the adapter worked like it was designed  to I think it would be fine - functionally, although accuracy might stink.

I had the adapter for 30-06 to 7.62x39. I couldn't get it to shoot right. It would shoot all over the paper...

RCBS in their 7.62X39 FL dies used to offer both a .311/.312 expander ball, and a .308 expander when reloading that cartridge for a rifle like the Ruger Mini-30 (which is in .308 caliber).

I would be quite interesting to read what experience a shooter had with one of those adapters if they were shooting 3.8-cal bullets in a .308-bore.  I'm not surprised to hear that your accuracy was bad Kenbev, if you were using European-brand ammo?  Is that correct?  If so it was no doubt the larger .311/.312 caliber.

I was using factory Remington loads in the 7.62x39 shooting them in the 30-06 with the adapter.

I haven't used them in Rifles but I have used them to switch between gauges in my shotgun. the ones I got through Cabelas work extremely well.

Winchester and Remington 7.62X39 ammo is loaded with .308 bullets to start with . Reason is Ruger has .308 bbl's on the mini-30 . So there is little reason to shoot .310-.312 stuff unless you just want to shoot the offshore cheap stuff . If you buy the high quality off shore stuff when you can find it you may as well buy American on sale ( IF YOU CAN FIND IT ) as the cost difference is marginal .

Kenbev, can you tell me who made the one that you have that shoots well? I have a whole bunch of .30 Cal carbine ammo and I would be interested in getting an adapter to shoot it out of either a 30-06 or a 30-30...Thanks...<><....:).

Thanks Doug, both my.308's are bolts and I am interested in shooting this .30 cal carbine ammo out of one on my Handi's in either 30-06 or 30-30, preferably the 30-30...I will go to that site and check, I would also like to get an adapter that has a proven record of working well...thanks again....<><....:)
