Best MPG Truck
« on: April 06, 2008, 07:57:04 PM »
I am looking to see what everyone is getting MPG wise. I am thinking about trading in my 2006 Chevy Trailblazer for a new truck. Gas mileage is important to me, so I want to get one with the best MPG. I drive 16 miles one way to work, and I haul very little on a day to day basis. I have a trailer that I will use to haul the law mower across town to mow my mother's lawn. Also, I would like 4 doors, as I have two boys that are growing like weeds and I plan on keeping the truck at least 7 years. I will mainly be using the truck as my day to day driver and for hunting and fishing. I will also be using it to haul a small boat in the bed that I just got this weekend. I have plenty of time to contemplate the purchase so bring it on, I'm all ears.

Well Hogfan, I just bought a "08 Chevy with 4.8 and am getting 20 mpg with it, but some say they don't get that good. I think the New Chevy with the 5.3 runs on four cylinders on a level drive and probably gets good milage for a full size. Here is a link for you:

I think if you drive easy, you can beat the gov figures; drive hard and make them worse.

you use the truck as a car, buy a gas sipper 4cyl sedan. keep your truck to use as a truck when you need one.

I have a 2004 hemi 1500 4x4 and get about 10 - 12 mpg in town and about 17 or 18 on the highway. I traded gas mileage for power (345 hp). That was 4 years ago. Don't know if I will do it again. I have had zero problems with the truck though.

Son has a Full size Dodge with a 4.? , combined driving he gets about 18 mpg. I have a 2500 chey. diesel 4door and get 18.3 . His truck hauls him and girl friend and mine hals tools and everything for comerical plumbing/hvac .
I have all 4 top brand trucks and to be honest the best thing to pick by is the service dept at the dealership . They all break sooner or later and you might have a hard time with a bad service dept.

That's a great point!  The stealership I got my Ram from is terrible.  If it's not obviously leaking or falling off, they always say "we couldn't duplicate the problem".  I haven't had any trouble at all with this truck.  I've dealt with them with other vehicles.  It's not brand specific.  I had the same problem with a Ford stealership.
