Is it worth it?
« on: April 28, 2008, 03:36:35 PM »
Local pawn shop has a contender pistol (with the cat on the side) with .223, 30/30, and .357 barrels.  He told me he would take $600 for the everything.  Good deal or not?

thanks

Of course you want to get the best deal you can. It depends on how badly you want it, if the barrels are what you want, how long the barrels are, condition and local pricing. To me they look like a good variety, a varmint barrel, a pinker and one that would serve for deer sized game. Hopefully the 223 and 30-30 are 14" and the 357 a 10", but that is personal choice too. At $150 per piece (3 barrels + frame) I do not think it is too bad. just my 2 cents

worth it  - yes

pay that for it - no way

I agree offer $400...worst thing that can happen is the guy says no...settle at $450

If you decide you don't like the barrels you can sell those off for $150 a piece and buy waht you want.

Thanks for the replys.  I used to own a contender and wish I had just let it sit in the safe instead of selling it off.  I may go back and wheel and deal with the guy.

He has both a octogon and regular .357 barrel.  Is one any better than the other? He said I could choose either one.

Thanks.

If they are both 10" the round one will be a little heavier. I think the rifling on the older barrels (octagon) are a little more pronounced (mine are anyway). You can tell by looking down the barrel toward a light source. It really comes down to your preference.
