While I have never tested them out I do know that they have had very good reviews when used on hogs. They are designed as a medium game round. It would not surprise me to see Winchester replace the Partition Gold line with the Platinum Tip.

Now this is something.  We all talk about the cost of ammunition going up but rarely consider that as a factor of the cost of constructing the bullet.

First we had the Lone Ranger - his boolits were solid silver (but didn't cost much  on accounta it was in the ol days when everything what cheaper).

Then we had Winchester introduce precious metals into boolits - the famed 'Silvertip'[/b] - which failed to stop some bad guys in Florida - maybe they shoulda used some Lone Ranger boolits.

Then Winchester gooses the auntie, er rather ups the ante, by replacing part of the silver boolits with gold - but only parts of them 'cause they are partition boolits.

Now, the auntie gets goosed again with platinum.  Anybody know how much that stuff costs?  Holy cow!  And we wonder why a box of ammo costs up to 30 dollars.  A new brick of 22s now costs $15 or so.

We won't be able to buy lead boolits in kalifornika on accounta Ah-nold not wantin' to eat lead shot when he cooks up a condor, so I don't know where this is all going..................

Nutz, I'm goin' back to cast lead slugs.  JMTCW.  Mikey.

Unfortunately it goes like this..... antis (your choice) lobby for a nation wide ban on lead bullets (its for the children) the metals that are left to work with are too costly or on the armor-piercing/ cop-killer bullet metal list..... and that is how you boil a frog...... >:(

Just as SilverTip bullets have no silver in them I'm pretty sure the Platinum Tip bullets have no platinum in them either. It's just the name assigned them not the metal content of them. ::)

Had my soninlaw chk back a couple of months ago and platinum was $8000 an ounce ~ or was it 7000 ? ?  :)  Who can afford a platinum blond?

Gotta say that the aluminum in the originall winchester silvertips took a bright shine from rubbing my jeans as a lad. Added to the mystique/lure of hunting.

I haven't used them on game yet, but the 240-gr .41 mags are the most accurate things ever to come out of the barrel of my 57. I'm sold on them for that alone.

I'd like to try them out in .41 myself, they make 1507fps in my Marlin and 1.5" at 50 yards, 1283fps in my 7.5" M97 with 1.1" at 25 yards, and 1218fps in my 6.5" M657 with 1.25" at 25 yards, all of which are enough provided I can make better shots than I did last year.    I think they're more than absolutely necessary for a deer, but plan on trying them this year.

funny stuff mikey  ;D ;D ;D

BTW....according to the legend, the Lone Ranger did not have to buy his silver boolits........he  had his own secret Silver Mine and cast his own boolits directly from the high grade ore it produced. It's whereabouts was only beknown to the masked stranger and his faithful Kemosabe, Tonto. It was because of this highly profitable hole in the ground that the two had nuttin else to do all day but ride the range and rescue fair Maidens in distress.

buck460XVR - Dang!  You're right.  The famous Lost Lone Ranger Silver mine known only to the Lone Ranger and Tonto.

You're right again in that it must have given the two a sufficient means to exist.  I sorta doubt the Lone Ranger paid for his supplies with silver bullets............................ or did he??  Mikey.
