218 Bee got a face lift. See what ya think.
« on: April 27, 2008, 11:31:33 AM »
I gave my 218 Bee a face lift. I had a BC stock that had been dropped and chipped. I had a Full length stock from Gunstocks Inc. The rest is in the Pic's. I reshaped the stock to a smaller dimension to take out the chip. I then reshaped the butt plate and cold blued the new edges. Then since the full stock is made for the larger barrel configuration I Acra-Glass bedded the full length adding powdered aluminum to the mix. I then sanded and shaped to my liking and applied Tru-oil. When dried I masked it off to shoot the edge of the stock next to the barrel and added the black tip. This was all done with HK Black Dura-coat. When finished I removed the masking tape lightly steel wold it and then gave it three coats of Dura-coat matte clear. The rifle started life as a Ultralight 22 Hornet Youth Synthetic. Then became the "Black Rifle" and now it's my "Gopher Getter".Hope ya like it. - Fanner50

Well done Gary,a very nice restoration/rebirth. I hope we can get together and chase some small furry critters this spring.  I look forward to shooting with you.    Doug

That's definitely a transformation and very well done. I've  always liked the 218 bee and also the 219 Zipper. Don't see them much anymore. Dave.
P.S. In the first pic it looks like a fully automatic single shot

Definitely from beast to beauty.

Kinda takes the TOY look from it , I too like the 2nd one better . On a side note , how does it do with 35 grain bullets in the 1-12 twist ? my 1-16 just loves them .

stimpy - I'll have to let ya know. Believe it or not I haven't shot this rifle yet. I have a Judges conference this week but should get to the range Fri. I have some 43Gr WW bulk bullets loaded over WW296. It's a load that shoots excellent in my son's Winchester 43 that his grandpa left him. Thanks for the nice comments I think I like it better too. - F50

Very nice after pic!  Wish I had some talent fixing things up. :-[   Oh well, I seem to do good at reloading, so will have to keep on that track.  At least we can shoot cheaper and stay in practice.  Had a good day here, in the 70's, Hope your side of the state was also nice.  DP.
