Orvis accounting/shipping sucks
« on: October 14, 2008, 05:59:32 PM »
I recently bought a new fly rod, reel, and line from Orvis online. I got the order and took me a week to straighten out the shipping and charges. Finally did after 6 emails.  This past weekend I was on this forum and saw the ad at the bottom of the fly fishing page and ordered the 20 flies for 9.95 special. My card was immediately charged and when I checked on the order tracking tonight Orvis showed that the order would not be shipped until 10/18. That's 5 days of using my meesley ten bucks plus tax. The same thing happened on the last order. Now I will be the first to say their rods are the best I ever owned. I had a chat mail with a customer service rep. who did not understand my questions, which is typical of most chat mail people.  My point is that although Orvis has quality products, their accounting/shipping service sucks.  I tried to rate their service but could never open their rateing page. Before anyone suggest that I go to an Orvis dealer the closest one is 200 miles away.  Well since gas came down from $4.89 to $2.98 in 2 weeks, I guess I could afford to make the trip.

skip Orvis unless they offer Free shipping.

I use Feathercraft, K&K, Sierra Trading Post, or Cabelas with free shipping when I can get it. Just make a list as you run out of tying materials and whatever else you need and save some money until you have over a $75 order.  Times are tough so sign up for the email advertisements Cabelas and Feathercraft have. They let you know when they are having sales/free shipping weekends. Sometimes you can find coupon codes online for these places. Slickdeals.com has coupons for Cabelas about every other month.
