Freedom Arms 1983 Revolving Rifle
« on: June 08, 2008, 07:38:43 AM »
There have been a few of us that would like to see Freedom Arms build a rifle. I have an idea that I'm sure there has been some thought about already. It may have even been ruled out as an option by Freedom Arms for some reason.

I thought I would put this question here to get some feed back from individuals that would be willing to purchase a Freedom Arms 1983 Revolving Rifle? In my opinion the only issue for Freedom Arms would be finding some material (wood or composit) stock that would not allow the tang to drive its self into the stock.

The nice thing about building such a weapon for Freedom Arms is that there would not be that much tool work involved? Think about the options, such as an octagon barrel ranging from 16" up to 32" if desired wow. It could also be done on the 1997, Feedom Arms 1997 Revolving Rifle.

Mr. Bob Baker, have you had any thoughts on producing such a fire arm? Could you give us the pros's and con's? Thank you very much for all your great products you and your fine employee's build for us outdoorsman.

While I'd love to see a rifle from FA it would need to be a Winchester M92 or M1886 clone to turn me on. Revolving rifles just turn me off big time as nice as they look I just don't see them as very practical. I for one am NOT gonna pull the trigger with my hand in front of that cylinder. I've seen how even FA guns as tightly fitted as they are eat up bags placed in front of the cylinder. There is no way I'm pulling the trigger with my left hand forward of the cylinder. Just not happening.

Now an M92 clone or an M1886 clone in .38-55 or .45-70 just might get my interest.

Graybeard has cited the very reason that a revoving cylinder rifle, with the attendant barrel-cylinder gap is fundamentally a bad idea. One from FA is not going to happen.
FA does have in the unannounced prototype stage, a single shot handgun (!).  If manufactured, it might also be introduced as a rifle at some point. The prototype as I understand it is in 6.5 JDJ, with additional barrels in .357 Mag. and .375 Win. Several friends have shot the prototype.

Magnum Research builds a great handgun but has very limited success with their rifles...
What rifle features do you want that you cannot find in other rifles?
I bet all the money in my wallet Freedom Arms will not sell rifles on price alone

The single shot will very likely be made in rifle form, and is interesting, to say the least.

An 83 with a rifle stock - ouch!  My 454's already tend to burn holes in my left glove's thumb.

I have always wanted to try one of the old Steady Arm stocks, though.

Someplace on the web I saw a photo of a guy who had his thumb in line with the gap on his revolver, I believe it was a 454 but can't remember for sure.  He has a lot shorter thumb now, ugly wound.  Remember the 357 Max cut the steel on the frames of many revolvers.  I don't think I would buy one.  Just my opinion.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but someone mentioned the Freedom Arms single shot so I thought that I would post the link.
