First impressions
« on: August 29, 2003, 03:43:35 AM »
Got to play with the 454 RB today.  My buddies looked it it and were awestruck and must have thought I have a screw loose to get the Howitizer.    I however had a twinkle in my eye.     Here is what my first impressions are:

(1)   Hard to malipulate trigger in DA mode due to grip configuration but SA is all you need here.  If you have big paws you might do ok with the DA.  Don't get me wrong, I can do it, it just does not promote a good trigger pull.

(2)  Trigger pull is not bad at all.  I have seen Ruger Security Sixes that took two men and a boy to manipulate.

(3)  Fit and finish were good.  No complaints here regarding inside or outside of the piece.

(4)  I don't care for the funky red color on grip.  Any after market grips out there?

(5)  The dual cylinder lock is interesting.  After having S&W's this will just take time to get use to.  Not saying this is a bad thing, just unique.

(6)  Barrel length... The 8 3/8" is a little too much but this is the only length approved for sale here.  The 6" would probably be better to haul around all day in the field.  Had a heck of a time finding a holster for this barrel length in the RB frame.

(7)  It gets extra points for the shock and awe factor.   8)

Overall, Taurus has come along way from what I have seen in the past.  The RB is a good value.  The .480 in this was about $150 cheaper.  If Taurus ever submits a .480 to CA for their "testing" I hope it is in the 6" version cause I want one still.
