Most of them on GunsAmerica are going for $450-$475, so I'd imagine your dealer could get you one for under $500. I shoot a 38-40 in a Ruger Buckeye conversion that includes the 10mm auto cylinder instead of the .40 S&W cylinder of the current offering. The 38-40, when handloaded, in a modern revolver can attain in excess of 1400fps with a 180gr or 200gr bullet with hard cast lead bullets. That would make it all the gun, and more, than you would need to cleanly harvest whitetail out to 50yds or so.
