Savage 99f twist rate.
« on: May 29, 2008, 03:10:01 AM »
My brothers step son inherited a Savage 99f manufactured in 1958.  It's chambered in 300 Savage with a 22" barrel.  The gun is at the Gunsmith right now gettting cleaned and the trigger touched up.  My brother asked if I would do a load work up and it shocked me as I started my load research.  That dang cartridge can keep up with or best the 308!  My load data used 22" barrels for both but the 300 had a 1 in 10 and 308 1 in 12 twist rate.  What is the twist rate of the 99f.  I'm planing on starting with Sierrra spbt 150gr. bullets but since he's in Pa and I'm on the left coast I want to cut dowm my load work up time.

According to my list it is 1-12 turns for the Savage 99 in 300!
