21 Day Hornet
« on: March 19, 2008, 11:56:49 PM »
I sent my receiver to HR to be fitted with a Hornet barrel. I called ahead of time and made sure they were in stock. Well 21 days later the big brown truck of happiness pulled up and delivered the 500's baby brother. HR did a great job lock up appears very solid. I've been working alot lately and taking career development classes at night, so haven't been able to shoot yet. I would post a pic, but haven't been able to figure it out yet. read and reread the help sticky with no luck I'll just keep trying to figure it out.

That is really fast!!

The fastest way I have found to post pics is, once they are on my computer I use the "Additional Options" blue lettered link on the bottom left of page of post reply or new topic window.  Then click the browse icon next to the "attach:" window.  Once I find my pic, I double click and then submit my post.  If the file is too big you might have to save it first as a smaller file.  Good luck and happy shooting!

Follow JerryKo's suggestions I'd like to see your Hornet. I'm thinking of doing the same.

Your welcome.  I thank you for that great pic.  I had my son out this past season, but we didn't have any luck.  He is six,but going on seven real soon.  He is the reason I got into the Handi Rifles in the first place.  After I heard about the PA mentor hunt I needed a low price "little gun".  After shooting it and discovering this site it wasn't long before I started selling my bolts for the Handi's.  Been real happy with my little collection so far.

I just picked up a hornet barrel on the Handi classifieds.  Go it yesterday, loaded up some bullets in the wee hours, and can't wait to shoot it. :)

Current production sights are attached with machine screws, one on the front, 2 on the rear sight.

I changed the pic posting link in the FAQs, that was a stop gap measure when I lost the original, forgot to fix it, it's greatly simplified now.

Great pic, btw!! ;)

Thanks quick. As far as he use of the Hornet, I plan on shooting coyotes out to about 100 yds. The ranches are having issues with them killing calves, and there seems to be a bunch in the grove that we deer hunt. Any suggestions on hunting them would be great never hunted them before. As for the picture not everyone can hunt in green turtle printed rubber boots.

The 21 Day Hornet is alive and Well..... :) I finally got enough time without other things I have to do. So I loaded 40 Hornet rounds using the lee Classic handloader. I started with the 8.5 grain starting load and made 10 of them then I made five each in .3 grain steps up to 9.7 grains .1 grain short of max. I had the loaded rounds and needed a scope I didn't have one lying around and no time to order one, so I ran to the Wally World ( hate that place ) and picked up a cheap Tasco 3-9X40 just to use till I got a different one. I went to the backyard and set up for fifty yards. three shots later I was zeroed at fifty. (starting to get excited groups look good) ::). started trying the different loads they all worked well and the max spread was about 1 inch not bad for not using a real rest. the 9.1 grain 4227 using a sierra 45 gr bullet worked the best all five touching in a diamond pattern a little over .5 inches. I know not the greatest, but I was happy it was my first attempt at reloading and I wasn't using the most stable of shooting platforms, and a 29.00 dollar scope. I can't wait to see what it can do on a rest.
