So many choices..
« on: February 12, 2008, 08:01:22 PM »
I'm looking at buying a 527 in 22hornet but I'm not able to see what I'm purchasing (I have to order).  I'm interested to see some of the various types and grades of wood look like.  I would like to see the maple, maple grade 2, walnut, fancy walnut, and english walnut and determine which one of them floats my boat.  Do you guys have pics or know where I could find pics of these stocks on the CZ rifles?  Everything on the website that I saw looked pretty nice but none of it was labeled what wood it was.  I believe it was just the regular walnut though.

thanks,

Ken

I have no photos for you Ken but I've yet to see a CZ in person at least that had what I'd consider more than average looking walnut on it. The one I bought looked nice enough but was not fancy by any means. I've seen one with the maple and I really liked it. I had no particular use for it at the time so didn't buy it but kinda regret that decision as it was quite different and unusual but the wood like the walnut I've seen on them was not particularly fancy just nice light colored maple. I really don't think CZ puts much high grade wood on their guns.

There is so much difference stock to stock that even if you saw photos of any given one what you'd get is likely not gonna look like any of the photos you see. You really don't buy the CZ guns for high grade wood.

I did scroung up this image for you of the CZ I had.

Graybeard, thanks for the pic and advice.  I know that the stocks will all vary, but just wanted to get a general idea of what they classify as fancy walnut and grade #2 maple.  I've seen some maple that almost looks orange and I don't like the looks of it much, but I've also seen some maple that is a light blonde, almost white color and I really like the looks of it.  The rifle they display on their website has some nice looking walnut on it, but I doubt that's what my stock would look like when I opened the box.

Most factory rifle have 1 or 2 little things that need tweeked or adjusted (trigger, bedding, recoil pad) that most people myself included complain about.  Is there anything in particular that people complain about or have trouble with in the CZ 527?  How's the bedding, safety, extractor, accuracy, etc. on these rifles?

thanks,

Ken

I recently bought a 527 carbine.  Haven't done any rifle shooting since leaving the Marines in '82.  Put a Sightron 4-16X scope on it and while working up some loads shot this off the bench in Santa Barbara:

That's 26.4 grains of H4895 behind Sierra Match King 53-grainers in new Lake City brass with CCI SR primers.  The first group got my attention, so I got serious with the second.

This little rifle shot so well that I ordered a 550 FS in 9.3x62 Mauser yesterday.
