New Howa 25-06
« on: February 25, 2008, 02:34:23 AM »
I ordered a new Howa 25-06 barrel & action yesterday. I have a synthetic stock that I can use for a while. If it shoots as good as my 223 & 270 I'll be happy.

How tough was it to order just the barreled action?  I've tried this in California and am encountering resistance from dealers.

No problem at all. I told my dealer what I wanted and he called his supplier and it was in stock and now it is on the way, should be here Friday. Maybe there is something different about the laws in Ca. Not a problem in Missouri. How many dealers have you tried? I already had a stock that I had taken off another Howa and the barreled action was $100 less than the complete rifle so I couldn't resist. Hope you can find a dealer to help you.

Good luck with your 25-06.  I look forward to reading your range report about it.  :)

I got my new 25-06 yesterday. I'm having some problems getting it set up. I didn't realize it would have a 3 pos safety instead of a 2. Both of my other Howas have 2 pos safeties. The stock I had was for a 2 but with a little help from my dremmel tool we made it fit. Now the scope mount is too long for the scope I want to put on it and I have to find some extension rings so I guess I'll miss out on the nice weather this weekend to sight it in and see what it will do. Oh well, I guess it will stay new longer this way.

There's always the unexptected, isn't there?  :)

Hang in there nolenor.   I predict all will be well. Don't forget that range report we're waiting for.

lgm270; Have you had any luck getting a barreled action yet? What kind of reason were you given for not ordering one. My dealer had them listed in his catalog in both blued & stainless. He had it here in less than a week, so they aren't that hard to get. I'm not sure but I think his supplier is in the Kansas City area. I'll be sure to let you know if I can hit anything with it as soon as I can get it set up.

Finally got my scope mounted and went out and fired it today. Got a good group but couldn't get the scope to adj. It was shooting to the right and every time I moved the scope it went farther to the right. I finally adj. it by moving the rings (Millet angle locks). Ended up with a nice group but 1" to the left. I'll get some more ammo loaded and try again later.

Hang in there buddy!   I have not tried further to obtain a barrelled action.  Other things on the plate right now.

Best to your continued efforts with your 25--06.

It"s a keeper!!!! I went back out today and the first three shots measured 3/4". I don't know if I can do it every time or not but at least I know it will do it.
lgm270; I hope you can find what you are looking for and I hope you are as happy with it as I am. Thanks for listening to my ranting and let me know how you do with your project. GOOD LUCK!!!

billy; I have a Howa 270 ss with a laminated stock also. Mine is a shooter too. Mine has a pepper laminated stock and I put a Nikon Bushmaster scope w/BDC reticule. I also have one in 223. I'm sold on Howa. I don't have a problem with any of mine.
