8x57 mm Pump Rifle
« on: March 24, 2008, 07:33:47 PM »
I"m interested in a Remington pump gun,  760 or 7600 with a 20" barrel in 8x57 mm mauser.

Anyone have any suggestions about who would do the barrel work or any thoughts on this idea?

Up in the NEF forum a lot of those guys use the same outfit for their rebore jobs, ask them!

I think your main problem is going to be that only the uber rare 257roberts or  7615 .223 barrels have a small enough chamber to clean up with an 8x57 reamer. None of the 308 or 30-06 based cartridges will work for a donor bbl on a rebore job.

Accuracy systems will rebarrel a 7600/7400 rifle, BUT be prepared for some sticker shock

A 8x57 reamer won't cut out the shoulder of a 243 chamber by about .015

Igm270:  if all you want is a pump rifle rebarrelled contact our sponsor MGM Barrels and see what they can/will do for you.  Failing that run your question past gunnut69, our Gunsmithing Forum moderator.  Also, The Montana Rifleman makes and installs fine quality barrels and I see no reason why they wouldn't wok on pump actions.

I think a 8mm pump is a good idea and would like to see one.  Let me know how you do.  Good luck.  Mikey.
