Best Stock for Howa M-1500?
« on: February 13, 2008, 05:52:40 PM »
Would be interested in recommendations and experiences with stocks for Howa M-1500 rifles.

I've heard good things about Accurate Innovations, but they're difficult to deal with.

How about Boyd stocks.  Any others' experiences with these or any others would be appreciated.

I put a Boyd on my Howa. Mine is pepper laminated. It isn't anything fancy just a standard stock. I like the looks but it has no checkering therefor it is rather slick. I haven't shot it very much yet but what little I have it doesn't seem to have bothered it's accuracy.

I put the grey lam Thumbhole on my 308, I fits good, feels great and did not effect accuracy.  I liked it so much the I purchased a Nutmeg for my other 1500.  Have not put it on yet. I like there stocks well enough that I just ordered another stock for my NEF

I have installed two Bell and Carlson Medalist Stocks on a Vanguard 300WBY and a Howa 25-06 . Great stocks and they are the Weatherby Monty Carlo design rather than the traditional stocks that are all the rage now . I find the Weatherby design let's me line up with the scope and keep my cheek on the stock .These are drop in stocks and they are well made .Mine are Tan with black spider web and are very cool.

I put a Boyd's JRS on my 1500 .338 WM.  I really like the stock.  It's not a light weight, but then, I really didn't WANT a light weight on my .338.  I sweetened the set up by replacing the factory butt pad with an aftermarket "Sorbothane" (can't remember which brand) grind to fit pad.  The combination of the JRS/laminated design with the "Sorbothane" pad transformed my .338. It's a real pleasure to shoot.  Wonderful rifle!

I don't know about the best stock for the Howaby, but my Howa 1500 in 6.5x55 has a nutmeg laminated Boyd's JRS to trade off with the factory tupperware.  I prefer the factory lightweight stock for hunting, but really enjoy the heavier laminated wood stock for the bench.  It is also a much more attractive rifle with the nice laminated wood stock.  For the money, you can't beat the Boyd's.
