Save up as much money as you can this year and order as much as you can from one supplier before next season. If you order from multiple sources shipping fees will kill your pocketbook. Try negotiating a youth discount with the supplier - some of them will work with you or cut you a break on shipping. Used traps cost almost as much as new so you are better off buying new unless you find a really good deal (good luck).

Another thing to try is to make flyers and place them all over town - tell people how old you are - explain that you have limited funds and inquire as to whether or not they could work out a deal for used trapping supplies. Maybe you could mow some lawns or wash a car for some traps if someone has them to trade. There used to be a lot more trappers during the fur boom and a lot of people have traps out in their garage or in the basement sitting around rusting...

If I was starting all over again- by myself with no knowledge of trapping- I would do this:

1) Join the Texas Trappers and Fur Hunters Assn. Contact Trot Vaughn at 936-275-5677. It will cost you $20 to join and you will get a subscription to the Trapper & Predator Caller magazine.

2) Decide on 1 species to trap for my first year.

3) Buy the equipment need such as trovel, sifter, etc and 1 doz traps and stakes.

4) But 1 0r 2 books devoted to the species you decided to trap.

5) Read those book,s scout your territory- and go get em!.....t'man
