Accuracy with the Rem. 7400 ?
« on: February 11, 2008, 09:00:57 AM »
For real what kind of accuracy have you gotten from 7400 (any caliber) out to 300 yds.  I have a BAR and it outshoot most evey rifle at the range  But, I like the looks and feel of the Remington better. I found a dandy on an auction sight and I have a few days to decide to bid enough to get it.  The rifle would be for deer hunting only.  Also can you reload for them ?

I picked up a used 7400 several years ago that was in good shape and gave 1 to 2 inch groups at 100yds with military 3006 and reloads. However, as the barrel heated the groups moved. I freed the forend, cleaned up the barrel and with full length resized reloads I can get down to 3/4 inch groups at 100yds. The heating problem is reduced but not totally solved. I use 150 gr soft nose bullets over 4350, 414, 4320 powders loaded to about 2600 fps. Mild reloads are all this baby needs to put a deer down with one shot.

best, nrb

CountryBoy,
I've owned one Remington 742 and two 7400s. All threee gave 1-2 MOA depending on the load.
