RWS mod 34 out for tuneup
« on: June 11, 2003, 03:54:48 PM »
I learned of a James Maccari who builds tune kits for air guns, spoke to him on the phone and ordered a kit. He claims a much smoother shooting gun, much less recoil will be the result. The kit consists of a new spring, spring guide and a grease he calls tar. I forewarded the gun & kit to Tim at Mac 1 for installation and trigger work. Both James Maccari and mac 1 are on the web if anybody is interested. They claim it to be a totally different gun when it comes back, we'll see......DP

Maccari seems to be highly regarded.

I've been surfing various air gun sites for over a year and Jim seems prettly highly regarded for his work and proudcts.  I don't have any direct experience but he sounds good.  There is a pretty discriminating bunch among air gunners and they don't put up with bunk - I've never seen a critical remark about Maccari.  Let us know what you think of your tune up.  Another highly regarded specialist is Russ Best of Bestunes.  Russ corresponds on several air gun forums and frequently offers very helpful advice.

good luck.

I got the RWS back, put it together ,put the scope back on, first shot was high but noticed much less recoil and a completely different sounding gun. It took a few shots to zero then shot 7 shots in .75 @ 30 yds. It seems much more consistant and easier to shoot. All in all I am very satisfied I'm sure it is easier on the scope, cocking effort remains the same. I think the lube Maccari calls tar keeps the spring from rattling and thats the cause for the difference in sound. While it was out I bought a R9 .177 I'll shoot them side by side tomorrow and see who wins......DP
