Have any 223 Handi reloaders here used Remington 7 1/2 small rifle
br primers in your reloads, and if you have, what were your results?

i've only been to Camp Perry a few times for the National Matches.   BUT, i know that there have been times those primers were so well liked that they had a run on them.   people just bought 'em up like they were the secret to a sure-fire trophy!   there have also been times when the Federal small rifle primers were popular.   but the Remington 7 1/2 BR seems to be the most consistently popular of the small rifle primers that i've read about; and they work superbly in the loads where i've used them.   i now use the Win' small rifle primers in my .357's and generally save the Rem's for the .223 loads because of well they work.

take care,

Thanks Safetysheriff,
You are right about the 7 1/2's being a bit of a bear to find at times.
Nobody local here carries Remington primers of any kind, let alone the
7 1/2's. I can get CCI and Winchester all day long. I was on the road
over the Holidays and stopped by Cabela's and Sportsman's Warehouse
in Phoenix. I asked for some Remington 7 1/2's and wouldn't you know
it, they were all out! I'm going to have to get them in bulk from Powder
Valley or Midway. That's the only way I know how to make it worth while
with the $20 hazmat fee.

The Remington 7 1/2 primers are my preferred small rifle primer on all 22 caliber loads except the 22 Hornet. I shoot 221 Fire Ball, 222 and 223. I have a small stash (1300 now), but have been looking at a couple of local stores and have not been able to get any for several months. I have tested the CCI  BR-4 primers right along with the Remington's and I get better results with the Remington 7 1/2 . They seem to be the most consistent primer and they are cheaper than CCI BR-4 primers. I may have to break down and pay some hazmat charges to get some more.

I use the Remington 7 1/2 primers in my .223 loading. I use them for s/a rifles as well.

I've tried both the Remington 7 1/2 and 6 1/2 primers and I got better and more consistent results with the 6 1/2s.  I also got better results with extruded powders (IMR 4895, H332 and IMR 4198) than with ball powders which would be more appropriate for the 7 1/2s and have given up on trying to get H335 to work.  Best, Brian
