New G2
« on: December 26, 2007, 12:52:57 PM »
I just picked up my new G2 frame today and am just a tiny bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited about venturing into the world of T/C single shots, and it's a fine rifle, but...

I ordered a T/C G2 Carbine frame and walnut stock, blue. The frame I got is black (paint, coating, finish?). If it is a "bluing" it's not like any of my other guns' blued finish. Also the frame came without a trigger stop screw, although the owner's manual tells how to adjust it. Nit-picky? Maybe! I did get a small (about .050") allen wrench. Don't know what it's for yet. Still looking for literature on T/C actions.

Can hardly wait for the barrel, it's on it's way. Got base, rings, and scope ready to be installed. I'm ready!  ;D

If there is no trigger stop screw T/c will fix it. It should also be blued and not painted.

I think you will find that TC has discontinued the trigger overtravel feature on new Encores & G2s. If they are refitting with them, that would be refreshing news. Personally, I would not purchase either without that feature.

I've also heard of sear engagement adjustments. I cannot find anything in the owners manual or by inspecting the frame ("near the front of the trigger" is what I read). I got a small allen wrench with the frame that I cannot find a use for. Still, it looks like a well fitted/finished piece and I'm not complaining, just want to know!

thanks,
Mike

Three of my frames are G2 and they all have the overtravel stop adjustment.  Two of them were made after the word was out that TC wasn't going to have that on the G2s any more.  It may have just been an over site leaving it off.  There are no other external trigger adjustments on the G2.  None of mine have needed any tweaking after I shot them a few times.  They are all in the 2-3 pound range and they break like glass.  That is all I need.  Others need less and trigger job information for them is common on the Internet if you Google it.  The original Contenders that I have do have external trigger adjustments, so that is most likely what you have been hearing about.

While barrel shopping on Ed's Contenders site I noticed barrels designated TCR, TCA, Type I, Type II, and Type III. Google isn't any help. Is there a place (other than here!) that is a definitive T/C information source?  Been to the Bellm site, Bullberry site, and several on line stores.

Rookie T/C owner,
Mike

P.S. Finally found out what the CENSORED word is!

Drop me an email and I can send you some info on TC barrel designations - types.
TCA is the Thompson Center Association special run barrels.
TCR barrels are specifically for the TCR rifles they manufactured in the '80's.

I absolutely adore my G2. I didn't notice any paint finish either. Way better quality than my older pre 195,000 Contender frame.
btw, just sent the older frame to have it Metaloyed. Most of the blueing was gone but it is still tight as a drum.
