« on: December 31, 2007, 03:14:11 PM »
I bought a tc encore 204 one year ago at cabellas they mounted alaskan 6x scope, sighted in it shot good groups, but the next time out zero was off by one or two inches side to side and up and down, tried all the mount and remount on the scope, finally replaced scope with a leoupold vx111,seemed to hold zero went back out today shot 1 1/2 left 2 high, does any one know what the problem is? thanks Rob

When I first got my encore I had some similar problems when I was shooting from a bench.  Because the forearms is screwed to the barrel you have to make sure that you are positioning the gun the same way on the rest when you are shooting it.  Also be conscientious about putting pressure on the gun when you are shooting from a bench.  Just one idea.  There are alot of knowledgeable people on here, be patient and you will get some good answers.

Read thru this post in this same section
(censored word) Encore Prohunter Tune Up Kit

You will see a couple different methods for stress relieving the forearm. This will sometimes help with the problem you are having. Also as others have already said being consistent is a major problem. When shooting from the bag most my TC's prefer the forearm resting close to the frame but not all. Shoot groups with the forearm resting front, rear, and center to see what your gun wants. Try and keep the same grip pressure on the grip when squeezing the trigger. A different grip or grip pressure will change impact.

I believe what you are saying is that group size is OK and that it's only a change in zero you're concerned about.  If that is the case, you ARE being consistent and it's most likely a problem with the scope.  Things like temperature, barometric pressure, etc. can make a difference in the point of impact but I wouldn't expect 1.5 to 2 inches worth.

For what it's worth, when I bench shoot an Encore or Contender, I don't put any pressure on the forend; I just rest it on the bag for both rifles and handguns.  I also don't do hanger bars, special bedding, etc. and I get groups I'm quite happy with.

I had the same problem with my TC Encore 204.  I mounted a bipod and it fixed the problem at once.  Mine is the 28" Prohunter blue fluted barrel and it shoots one slightly ragged hole at 100 yds, of course thats if I hold the rifle steady.  Ha Ha
