Browning BOSS-stay or go?
« on: May 28, 2008, 06:20:52 PM »
i'm having to reblue my 7mm-08 a-bolt. syn. stock with the boss system. the system really works, but i think it's ugly as sin. what should i do? is cosmetics that big of deal? i was able to reduce my group size by half, without altering my handload. i did it in 3 groupings of 3 shots. very efficient. does browning even offer the boss anymore? thanks!

I just received my brand new catalog from Browning about two days ago.  Yes, they do show several models with the BOSS or BOSS option.  Since this seems to be more a matter of form vs. function - that is personal taste, I'll just tell you my opinion.....
The BOSS system obviously works for you.
I don't think any synthetic-stocked rifle is really beautiful anyway, and the BOSS isn't going to make it more or less so.  It doesn't look that bad on that rifle.  Synthetic stocked rifles are more function over form.
I value accuracy, or anything that will enhance the potential for it.
I'd leave it on.

I have a few fairly nice over/under shotguns.  I had a hard time with the appearance of extended choke tubes on a nicely engraved double shotgun with beautiful wood.  My new Briley extended tubes DO work better than the flush tubes that I replaced.  I got used to them and the way they look.  They stay.

To each his own. :) :)

If it cut your group size in half, I would leave it on. jmo
