Is there anyone manufacturing a double barrel shotgun in the US besides Ruger?  I want to buy American and there aren't many choices.

Aren't many choices!? In addition to Ruger, Remington makes both  SxS and O/U doubles, Mossberg makes an O/U, Kimber makes BEAUTIFUL (and quite expensive) doubles, Marlin produces doubles under the L.C. Smith brand, BSA makes doubles, so does Savage....

I'm sure there are quite a few others, but those are the major manufacturers I could come up with offhand.

Of those you mentioned ONLY the Ruger is American made. All the rest are made over seas in various countries and imported into the US. Turkey and Italy seem to be the primary sources chosen these days for doubles to import other than the Japanese made O/Us.

That is what I was afraid of.  The whole Winchester fiasco sort of focused my attention on this issue.  When Winchester begins production again will it be in the US? 

Anyway, I was looking for a good double gun and I wanted it to be made in the US and Ruger is the only one truly produced here.  I like to buy American and will do without before I buy Chinese.

That reminds me.  What about Weatherby?  I know their rifles are made in Japan, but what about the shotguns?  If it is made in America it is usually prominently displayed as such, but I could find no such notation on the web site.

Oops, I thought he meant American companies. It is indeed getting tough to find much of anything that's actually manufactured here in the States...

Weatherby shotguns are imported. I think some from Turkey and some from Italy.

I would be more concerned about the overall quality of the firearm versus where it is made, or by whom.  I understand the reasoning behind being American-made.  I think though, that that is going to be a very hard niche to fill - I don't think there are that many U.S. manufacturers out there any more.  Marlin's L.C. models are imported from Italy, and DeHaan's models are imported from Turkey.  I think most everyone is importing them instead.

You might try looking around at www.shotgunworld.com.  The website was a big help to me last year when I was making a decision on a SXS or an O/U.  I finally bought my O/U Browning a couple of weeks ago.

As a consumer, you're missing an important point. Americans generally prefer low cost pump guns, or autos at all price points below about $1200, so that's what gets built in the U.S. Over-unders are preferred by those willing to pay the much higher prices, and the fact is that other countries just do a better job of making guns like that. The Italians, for example, have good shotguns as a national priority for this very popular Italian sport. Their metals industries are fantastically state of the art and there is a culture of manufacturing superb shotguns.

Side-by-sides are just becoming slightly popular again because modern manufacturing once again makes it possible to make them profitably in just a few countries where the wage differential favors the US Dollar for the time being. I really believe that they will not catch on with people who care about performance and usability rather than tradition. (By the way, I had a side-by-side. Piece of junk compared to a good O/U.)

So limiting yourself to buying American in this case is a great limitation indeed. Most of what you're interested in just isn't made here. If you're really dedicated to buying American, consider some of the fine autos that are made here.  That would be taking advantage of the best the U.S. has to offer.
