There is no dovetail on the barrel, just on the receiver. I have just ordered a 1 piece ring from www.dednutz.com which screws directly onto the receiver. I will know more when it arrives and I get home from a work project at the end of the month. It would seem that a one piece mount screwed on mount would be the way to go.

I think your talking about two different systems...  One is the Valmet 412 system, and the other is the Sako dovtail system...

Now, what one are you trying to scope???  As they don't interchange...

A 412.

Many moons ago, Valmet made the Savage 2400's which "did" use Sako dovetail rings, but then Valmet designed the new 412 system...   The VERY early "experimental" 412 bbls did have the Sako dovetail on them, but VERY few made it to the gen. public and although possible, i doubt you have one of those.  The 412's that went to the public had a new designed system that is a "detach" base that the rings are mounted to..  It comes as in this pict...

This system is "excellent" and allows you to take the scope off and reinstall it without having to re sight the bbl...  I've had mine on and off a zillion times, and it all works as advertised!!

They are all steel and built to last!!

Drilling man;  I have a Valmet O/U in 12/.222 that takes SAKO rings.  It was sold as a 412, but does not carry a model number.  It came from Sweden.  Dougk has my pm with the barrel markings and serial #

BTW;  There is a fellow in Sweden that is willing to trade one of the bases pictured for some Ruger 10/22 mags.

My guess is, it's what was sold in the US as the Savage 2400....  They look like a 412, but none of the parts interchange and the 412 is a stronger action...  The 2400's also came here in 12/308 Win...

I'm adding a pict of my Savage 2400 (made by Valmet)

Drillingman;  Thanks for the pic. of your 2400.

My gun does not have the cushion buttpad.  Mine does have double triggers. The pressed chequering on the forend has a fleur de lis pattern centred on each side.

Could you post a pic of the gun.  I am very interested in seeing it.
Thanks

What the wood looks like won't be much of a clue, as depending on who spec'ed it out (in my case Savage) it could be most anything....

Take some decent picts of the mono bloc out of the action, and inside the action with the bbls removed....  I will probable beable to tell you more about it then...

I've seen a variations before, and it was in Canada too.
