C.Z. carbine in 7.62x39
« on: June 04, 2003, 02:05:47 PM »
Has anyone got any thing to say about this rifle (good or bad)? I want something to use for mostly offhand plinking with iron sights. I know that there is cheap & nasty ammo available, but I would be using good quality stuff. The other option is the same carbine in .223, but I thought the barrel might be a bit short for that round. I would appreciate any comments

CZ carbine in 7.62x39

Quiet Burp, I just bought a 527 in this caliber last week. It is very accurate with Wolf 122 gr. fmj. I called CZ service and they said this rifle is fine to us steel cased ammo. I'm very happy with the carbine. I traded a Ruger Mini-30 that wouldn't group for the CZ. I have put 260 rounds through it. The open sights are very usable but my middle aged eyes really need a scope.

Best regards.

I have had one for several years now and enjoy it.  Although I am not a benchrester, I have found it to be accurate and dependable - more and more, I find it in the truck with me when I go out in the fields.  I have used both the commercial and military ammunition and have had no problems with either.  I am sure you will enjoy the rifle - it is well made and chambered for a great little cartridge......

I can vouch for the rifles. They're great. But why that caliber? It's less powerful than a 30-30.  If you're not going to be buying bulk military surplus ammo, get a .308 instead.

The CZ Carbine only comes is 223 or 7.63x39.

I have a friend who purchsed one in 223. It is incredibally accurate. I am considering one in 7.62 x 39 which would make a great woods gun.

Actually, there is little differance between the 30-30 and the 7.62 x 39 in terms of killing capability. And the cheap ammo makes it a great plinker.

Hello. just finished doing some extensive testing on the CZ brush gun. Developed a 150 gr soft point load a little hotter than a 30-30 fired from a standard lever action length barrel. Grouped under 1 1/2 at 100 yards. Developed a load using cast bullets that would be a little less than a 32-20 for small game( head shots on squirrel)  Shoots about 1/2 inch at 60 yards. This is like shooting a .22.  Federal soft point ammo will consistantly group three shots under 1" at 100 yards. Using a 4x scope with the number one reticle( with quick detach Warne mounts) it is one of the best offhand shooting combinations that I have ever fired. A really sweet little rifle.
