Tikka Action - Short?
« on: June 21, 2003, 06:50:09 PM »
Hi - I am getting close to ordering a Tikka 308.  What are the major differences between the Whitetail Hunter and T-3 ?

Do they both have short actions in the short action rounds like 308 or are they long actions chamnbered for the 308?

I want a light fast handling bolt rifle in 308.. I see t3 lite too?  Any scoop???.

Whitetail has both long and short action guns available.

The T3 only come in a long action.

Scout, the T-3 just comes in long action, but they but a spacer in their for short actions such as 308.  It cuts down on the cost of manufacturing.  I would go with the Whitetail Hunter if I was you.  I have one in 270 and it shoots 1 5/8" groups at 200 yards.

I have never even handled a T3, but I DO own 2 Whitetail Hunters - one in .243 and the other in .25-06, and I LOVE THEM.

Let me answer your question this way - I too am looking to buy a Tikka in .308 - specifically a Stainless Synthetic model - I am looking only at the Whitetail Hunter - NOT the T3.

Gunfinder.net has Tikka Stainess Synthetics in .300 and 7mm Rem Mag for $483 which is right at wholesale, if not a bit below.  Problem is, I already have 2 .300s and 1 .338.  Although I have a .308, it is the Remington VS SF, meaning that it like the Sendero Stainless Fluted - BIG AND HEAVY.

If I could find a NIB Tikka Stainless Synthetic for $483, then I would buy it in a heart beat.

Still working on custom loads for my new Tikka Whitetail Hunter but so far I've managed a 1 3/8" group at 200 yards and a 2 9/16" at 300 yards. I expect that to get better as my handloads get dialed in for the new rifle and I've figured out how to properly clean my barrel.
