Dream Duck

What duck or goose have you always wanted to shoot but never have?

Mine until a few years ago was a Cinnamon Teal, then I was lucky enough to get one.

This may sound crazy to your Easterners but I have always wanted to get a Canvasback.  I have been hunting since the early 80's and have only seen two, both in the same group.  And I hunt a bunch, so it isn't because of lack of effort.

I have also never shot a Golden Eye or a Red Head drake and would like to get one of those as well.

Not so much specifically a duck or goose but what I've always wanted to do and not done is a dry land duck/goose hunt as opposed to over water. I watch them do it on TV and it sure appeals to me but have never managed to pull off such a hunt.

GB, you definitely should try a Field hunt if you have the chance. there's nothing better in my eyes as seeing a flock of geese, or ducks, dropping into your dekes in the field.
Specklebelly, I would like to hunt your handle name........the specklebelly goose. We don't have them here.....but I'd like to give them a try.  :)

Not very exotic, but I have always wanted a Male Wood Duck.  I use to duck hunt quite a bit in high school in Oklahoma but we didn't get many woodies down there.  Now I live up in the northern midwest and I see them now and then but haven't been hunting.  That might change, a guy I know keeps talking about going out duck hunting so we will see.

A radio neck collard goose.  I live in a waterfowl oasis with pretty much everything here except blackducks.  I guess I'm spoiled being in the heart of the Pacific Flyway.

I've shot Mallard, Sprig, wooduck, all 3 species of teal (cinnmon, green, bluewing) cans, widgeon, gadwall, ruddy, shoveler, ringneck, scaup, canada, specks, snows, ross, aleautians (haven't shot one of those), mergansers, coots.

I would also like to shoot a pintail/mallard cross.  My Dad killed 2 out of the same flock in the 70's.

Harlequin, that is my choice.
In my area the season is closed for them, has been and probably will be for a long time. I understand that on the west coast they are allowed "one" per season and it is documented much like a "game tag" would be.

               Hey banen:
In Oklahoma along the fertile Bottom land of the Arkansas River, the lazy creeks that parallel the river are covered with huge ancient trees and grape vines, a haven for the Wood Duck and Mallard.     When the Geese hit the bottoms, and you'd like to see some action without actually getting into it, just pull over along a dirt road when you see a decoy steak out.   After a few minutes you'll be abel to pick out most of the camoflauged hunters, you almost feel what they're feeling during the wait.   As the geese come in you wonder why they don't start shooting, but the hunters are courteous to one another and hold until they get the best presentation, and they all come up shootin.  Some of the geese seem so low that they could almost bat em down with their barrels, and as big as those geese look you'd think one should drop with every shot, but in the stir of excitement and the blazing of guns most escape without being scathed.   Makes a man's heart almost stop.  Beautiful to watch, just beautiful.
Enjoy your rights to keep and bear arms.

I'd actually like to hunt just about all the ducks mentioned but further south and later in the year. Up here in NDak very few of the male ducks have much color when they go through. Mallards, pintails and spoonbills are about the best it gets. In 30 years I've never seen a teal, widgeon  or many of the diver ducks in full color.
Just another worthless opinion!!
