Would you agree to this statement.
« on: June 01, 2008, 01:57:41 PM »
Between the brown and the grizzly has diminished. Both bears have the same dish face shoulder hump general coloration and their range overlap. Finally in 1961 the Boone & Crockett  club flatly classified both bears as one calling them Alaska bears genus Ursus. This statement came from a book that my father gave me complete book of hunting. copyright 1962 by Clyde Ormond.

I always understood that the giz and brown are in fact the same species. Only dif being that costal browns are genetically larger due to their diet rich in fish.

I don't really see a statement to agree or disagree with I see only a sentence fragment.  ???

Same exact bear its what they eat that makes the difference.Supposed to be from coast to 100 miles inland for record books on brown or grizz. I have seen plenty of grizz just cross the mountain and come eat salmon then go home. I have seen what some of the locals thought were a cross between brown and blacks.I have also seen one report of a polar brown cross

Brown bear, kodiak bear, grizzly bear are all the same genus and species. The variance depends due to region and diet attributed to the region.

Coastal tends to be the biggest, mountain the smallest.

I would agree witht that statement.
