Samurai Gearing
« on: June 04, 2007, 04:16:38 PM »
Going to put a 5" lift on my Sammy.  Going to 31X10.50X15 tires.  Any recommendations for regearing the transfer case?  Looking at the 4.16:1 gear set.  It's my daily driver and off roader as well.

I did the 5" lift, too much, should have only gone 3".  I don't like the new hight, too hard to get in and out for a daily driver.  The 4.16:1 gears work well with my 31X10.50X15s.  I also purchased a second Sammy, this on had a 7" SPOA lift, Detroit lockers front and rear, 4.16:1 gears, and 35X11.50X15 tires.  The tires are too tall, when I hit fifth gear the rig slows down.  It also takes a lot more RPM to start off from a standstill in first gear.  I used it to take out on a float trip last month.  While we were floating the river it rained solid for three days.  The trail we had left the Sammy on had totally washed out.  First gear, low range, and let it crawl.  Towed out the trailer with a Cataraft just fine.  My friend could not believe we crawled over bolders the size of recliners, and drove right up the washes.  It took us three hours to go 8 miles, but we got out with no problems, breakdowns, or getting stuck.

Sourdough a set 5.12 in diffs with the 4.16:1 should spread your gearing out about right for the 35s
Here's a gearing calculator just made for the Zuk  http://www.lepayne.com/gears.html
