Chamber Adapters- Advise
« on: August 20, 2007, 12:35:02 PM »
I saw ad in shotgun news for chamber adapters, wondered if anybody has tried them.

They also sell what I think is like the adapters the US used for .30.06 to .308 that you put in and take out with a broken shell extractor.  They have it for 762x39

http://www.mcace.com/adapters.htm

Also look on main page they have sleaves for shotguns to shoot rifle cals.

I wonder what accuracy you might get, and are they safe?

Thanks

I wouldn't recommend them if Robert's experience is common. :-\

when one of our gunsmiths retired I'll bet he scraped a metric butt load of them and the tooling to put them in . all and all they would make a great anchor. they where an attempt to give the old m1 a new lease on life as a service rifle  when the m14 was adopted . I heard they were  a dream of the Navy but I don't know for sure

Thanks Tim, I was hoping you would read this and reply.

They also sell barrel inserts.  I have a .410 Handi and don't know what to use it for, thought maybe I would get insert for .22 Mag or Hornet.

Will it be safe in your opinion with those choices.

Also I ordered a 12ga turkey barrel, they offer inserts for

22 LR 22 Mag 22 Hornet
218 Bee 32-20 32 ACP
32 H & R 32 S & W 30 Luger
30 Mauser 380 ACP 9 mm Luger
38 Special 44 Special 45 ACP
45 Long Colt 45-70 410 Shotgun
444 Marlin 375 Win 30-40 Krag
7.62x39 (US made Ammo only!)

What is your opinion?
Thankyou,

I can't offer any advise on how well the chamber adapters work, maybe you should contact MCA and ask em about H&Rs. But I do know that folks have had trouble with using centerfire barrels on shotgun frames and it's not recommended, the larger firing pin and firing pin hole can cause ruptured primers and gas blow back into the frame which isn't good, please see DieselBuilder's report on shooting a 223 barrel on an older shotgun frame. I would suggest you use an SB2 rifle frame for the shotgun barrel and adatper if you choose to try it. The rimfire adpater may work well tho, dunno. ;)

I have a couple in .308 to 32 acp and .30-06 to 32 acp.  The 308 to 32 acp is a sweet device.  At 25 yds it is dead on and at 50 yard it is about 4" low.  I am shooting 93 gr lead over something like 3.2 gr of unique in the 32 acp.  No hot rod, but still fun to shoot.  I got mine from Numrich Gun parts.

I have not seen any primers get punched through yet, but it could happen.  A strange thing is, they won't work in a Rossi 308 that I have.  I would guess that the chamber tolerances are a bit tighter in the Rossi.

Anyway, I for one will give the calibers that I have a thumbs up.
