Hello,
I was just introduced to a nice old "99,serial#709xxx.
I understand, from this Forum, that it was made shortly after 1951.
Can anyone tell me what model letter that it is;and a ballpark figure as to what it is worth?

This is probably the post-war Model 99R, or 99RS, depending if it has a Redfield receiver rear sight, or not.  The RS has the sight.  Also, calibers .250-3000 and .358 Win add a 20 % premium.  In original form, these will run from around $550 in 100% condition down to $250 in 60% condition, the average being about $350.

Kdub,
Thanks,a bunch.
I have a 1951 Stoeger's catalogue which advertizes the Savage 99R and 99RS.
The rifle in question has a standard sight.

Kragman:  the model 99eg was manu. between 1946-1960 cal. 243/250sav./300sav/308/358win.  Then you had a 99r manu 1946-1960/ then you had a 99rs 1946-1958 those are the ones shown with that manu. date to fit into and that info; cones from the blue book of values and a value wont be able to be given until you figure out which one of these you might have. :D   JIM

It doesn't really matter if its a M99EG or M99R.They pull about the same resale price. If its in very good to excellent it should go in the $500.00-$650.00 range.358win should cost a little more.I just sold a M99A in 358Win(excellent condition) for $750.00,and that is the newest and most common of the 358wins.
