Florida public land
« on: June 20, 2007, 05:17:37 PM »
My wifes HUGE family is going to be taking a trip to florida next month.  Although I enjoy the beach, I don't want to lay there for 7 days.  I have always wanted to do a little hog hunting.  Am I being silly to think I might be able to spend a couple of days on public land and come up with something?  We don't have any hogs in KY, so I am a definate greenhorn in this area.   Been hunting for years for whitetail and turkey.

We will be staying in the Daytona/Flagler area.  I don't mind to drive an hour or so, but don't want to go any further than that if I can keep from it.   Anyone got any suggestions?

It isn't legal to hunt on public management areas until archery season starts in late August. Private land is legal year-round for hogs, and I'm sure you could find an outfitter/guide in that area. They are everywhere, but it's going to cost you.

For a little longer ride from Daytona Beach you might call:

A. Duda & Sons, Inc.
1200 Duda Tr.
Oviedo, FL 32765
FL Tel. 407-365-2111
Fax 407-365-2010

They manage their rural properties for wildlife.  Hogs being what they are, and their lands being private, I suppose they could hook you up.

Let us know here how that progresses so I can either stop suggesting them or give a better recommendation.

We vacationed in Daytona several years ago.  My daughter and I went to the Honeyhole at Fisheating Creek Hunting Camp where I took a hog with my pistol.  Not public land but cost was reasonable and I brought home an ice chest of fresh pork.  We had a great time.
