Granted , i don't own a 444 yet , but from shooting my 45/70 and hearing of all the others rave about how well theirs shoot , it would be a 45/70 .

If you hande load it can go from very mild to super wild and still be fun , when you add all the diffrent cast bullets that are around , it will work for everything from Florda Key Deer to the Biggest of Northen White Tails .

I like my 22" handi so well that i'm getting a BC to go with it .  ;D

i have the 45/70 and love it. My first rifle bought myself was a M arlin 444 and is a sentimental fav. I'd like to see what it can do in a single shot.

Last season me and my wife used the 45/70's during the Miss. primative season. Using the leverlution ammo they both shoot real good. This year we're switching to the 444 marlin, a little less kick for my wife and a flatter trajectory for me.

I have a new .444, it's a good shooter with every bullet I've put through it from the 240gr and 265gr Hornadys,  to the 355gr BTB cast bullets, but I have three 45-70 H&Rs, if I could only have one, it would be a 45-70, better bullet selection for the handloader and ammo availabie for factory shooters, just makes it the best choice of the big bores. ;) But the best choice is ALL of the H&R big bores, the cost of Handi barrels makes it very possible for anyone. ;D
