Loads for a .243
« on: May 18, 2003, 04:32:46 PM »
I am going to be loading 100 grainer partitians for my buddy's .243.  He has had marginal success with  100 grain factory remington core lokts.  Since we live a great distance apart, I will not be able to do any load development or experimentation with the gun.  What would you suggest as a load with this bullet?  I currently have IMR 4350 powder.

Thanks!

BH:

I had the same luck with the 100 gr Remingtons.  Dropped down to 85 grain Partitions and ain't lookin' back.  I use IMR 4350 too.

I've shot 5/8" 3 shot groups with 40.0gr of Win 760, Win WLR, under a 100gr Hornady BTSP in Winchester cases. I also had luck with 40.5gr of Win 760, CCI 250, behind a Speer 105gr in Rem cases for a 3/4" group.

If you are determined to stay with the 100's, then IMR-7828 From 38.0 grains to 47.5 grains and Remington 9-1/2 Primers.

However, I found the Sierra 85 HPBT to be a fine bullet for the .243 with 40.4 of IMR-4350 and Remington 9-1/2 primers.

(IMR-3031 From 30.0 grains to 37.9 grains and Remington 9-1/2 Primers is my second choice for the 85's.)

I agree with Ricciardelli, in that my rifle really likes this 85 grn Sierra bullet. I useIMR 3031, Imr 4831,& Varget. 3031 has been the most accurate. I use wlr primers. My luck with 100 grn bullets is that at 100yds they are in the kill zone for Antelope. Not a varmint bullet for me. Maybe a faster twist may work. I am as most a 1/10"

I just checked my son's loading log for his model 7 243.  40 gr IMR 4350 under a 100 gr. Nosler partition.   5 round groups run from 3/4 down to 1/2 inch at a hundred.
