Could use some help - Sako L-57
« on: July 28, 2007, 06:29:17 AM »
Recently picked up a Colt Coltsman with the Sako L-57 action. The way I understand it is that the whole gun was maufactured by Sako for Colt back in the early 60's or so.
The problem is that I took the bolt out, which has the safety feature attached to it at the shroud end, and while cleaning it and fiddling with it I some how got it cocked, for lack of a better term. The bolt is set as if in the closed position if it were in the action. There is a bar that is in the slot which is on the bottom side of the safety mechanism and the firing pin is is out, yep out.  :o
Anyone know what I can do to correct this and get the bolt back in the gun? It is now turned one half sideways in corrolation with the ears of the bolt and how it should fit in the gun's action.

You should be able to pull back and twist the bolt to the fired position, it works just like most Mauser's do.  This may not be easy, you are working against the firing pin spring which is fairly strong. You have to pull it back until the bar will rotate around.
