Not much luck with the hogs yet
« on: July 13, 2007, 05:06:11 PM »
Been baiting about 3 weeks now and no action. I've used every reciepe that has been suggested. I guess the Con. Dept has trapped them out of  the area I'm hunting near Council Bluffs lake. &Yet every day I go out I see trucks hauling big live traps coming east on hy 32 from Bixby to 21.
Anyone care to share info. North of hy DD off 21. ?

I dont know anything about the area you mentioned. But i can tell you what seems to work best as bait. Just take you some corn and poor molases over it. they seem to love it. And dont give up yet. Pigs take a while to find bait sometimes. A good trick to try s take about 3 foot of a railroad tie that has quite a bit of cresesote on it and strap it to a tree pretty close to your bait. Spray it down with deisel fuel once you get it mounted. They love to rub on them and seem to smell them and find them pretty good. And remember hogs are kinda nomadic, they travel and cover large areas lookin for food. Just keep at it. Ive always seen the most sighn around good sized thickets with alot of deadfall.

I drive those roads quite regularly and have seen hogs only one time and that was several months ago.

Rocko, I did exactly what you said yesterday. But I also discovered that another person had been hunting over the bait I put out. It's really be hard work for a man my age and condition. It just isn't fair, how anyone found this spot is beyond me it is really isolated and no trails. It's not fair !

Life is not fair, if it was I'd have been born rich rather than so good looking.  ;D :o

Had he killed any hogs?  A guy sitting over my bait wouldn't make me mad... A guy killing over my bait would.
