Mossberg barrels on Remington
« on: October 16, 2006, 05:35:06 AM »
Has anyone use Mossberg barrels on a Remington 870 Express? I was looking at the price differance. The Mossgerg number is 91356- cantilver and rifle sight 91330 both are rifled. Has anyone had any experiance with them?

Had one on a synthetic 870 express.  Tight chambered as heck.  Other than that it was great.  Very accurate, shot best with Winchester Partition Golds.

I have the canilever barrel on my 870. Love It!!
When I was pricing them out, the Mossberg was such a better deal, it wasn't close.
Got mine via ebay.
You'll need the extra $$ you save to buy sabot slugs!  :o ;D

Mine too, likes Partition Golds

Got mine through Cabelas this summer.  I think it is a great deal.  Mine is cantilever with a crappy Bushnell scope & porting, but it shoots accurately with 3/4 oz Federal Barnes expander sabots.  Can't remember any tight chamber issues, it fed & shot Remington sabots fine, too.  They just knocked the stuffing out of my arthritic shoulder.

If you have other scopes in your parts bin and can buy one without a scope for a reduced price, go for it.  I hate the 3x9 scope that was part of my package deal and will swap it after this season.  But I've killed 2 deer at 50-100 yds dawn and dusk.  Can't argue with success

Swampman,

They are made to Remingtons specs by Mossberg. They actually make 6 different barrels for the 870's. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Do they make your Remington rattle like a Mossberg?

I've never seen a pump gun that didin't rattle.  It's the nature of the beast.

Just picked up one of the smoothbore barrels for my 870 and it fit very tight to the 870 frame.  No back and forth play in the fit.  This should be a good thing as it will be for shooting rifled slugs to 75yards.

Shot the mossberg (for the 870) 18.5" barrel cyl bore with Low Recoil rifled slugs and was getting under 2" groups at 50 yards.  That was good, but wanted to try to make this barrel into a turkey and deer killer so sent it in to Mike Orlen and had choke tubes installed.  Now with a rifled choke and Hastings LR youth load I am getting one hole groups at 50 yards!  Still getting under 2" with the rifled slugs and IC choke tube.  Can't wait to see what it will do with the turkey loads and tight choke.  Also, thinking of trying the Dixie Triball loads.  Three .60 balls inside of 5" at 40 yards sounds real good for most of the places I hunt deer.
