Nearly 25 yrs ago, I was target shooting at a range near Davidsonville, MD. The fella at the position next to me had one of those little 45 or 50 cal CVA naval cannons he wanted to fire. This range had ample parking and you could drive your vehicle right up to and next to the shooting bench. He parked his fancy conversion van sideways behind the bench so he could have the slide open door right next to the bench. He and his buddy loaded up the cannon and fired a few times at the 25 yd back stop. Then they loaded again and lit the fuse. But this time as they pushed away from the shooting bench, the cannon started rolling backward and actually fell off the bench pointed straight back at his van. It put a ball through the passenger window and into the driver's seat. When I realized no one was hurt, I started laughing so hard, tears streamed down my face. His buddy merely said something about, "Your wife is gonna kill you!"
The exact scenario was repeated last evening at a nearby range. Only this time a Toyota radiator was killed. An oficer of the club witnessed the incident and told me about it this am. Safe gun handling courses are mandatory for hunting in this state. Common sense is not.
