Scout scope for X-eye dominant?
« on: May 10, 2007, 11:12:09 AM »
Hi guys
I shoot right and am left eye dominant.  I want to get a scout rifle with IER scope.  Will I be able to take advantage of both eyes open sighting?  How will this play out for me?  Thanks!  Bob

If you shut one eye when shooting, you shouldn't have any problems. With the scope out that far, your dominant eye may be drawn to it and it might mess up your shootiing.

I'm left eye dominant and when I shoot my K-31 with a scout scope I need to close my left eye. Same with my 44mag revolver with a scope. One eye closed on a scoped rifle shouldn't cause a problem.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

Same here. I am also cross eyed dominant. Left eye:20/25; Right eye: 20/30. With my scout scope setup I have to blink the left eye other wise I see the barrel and front sight.

More importantly is the comb height. Try this: Focus on a target, then shut your eyes and mount the rifle. When you open your eyes you should be starring through the center of the scope. If you are not, get out the foam rubber and duct tape and adjust the comb height until the test works. Interestingly, even with low scope rings, I have to raise my comb height to make the test work(with the scope mounted in the conventional position). In the scout scope mounting position, an adjustment might not be required.

In my case, with pistol sights, I also must blink because I am not that heavily dominant.
If you can get closer, get closer
If you can get steadier, get steadier.

Same here. Scout scope didnt work for me. I think closing one eye defeats the purpose of scout scope. Good luck
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting
