Removing Factory Grip From S&W Model 340PD?
« on: May 17, 2007, 10:07:07 PM »
What is the proper fashion to remove the factory wraparound rubber grip (manuf. Hogue Bantam) from the Model 340PD?  As you are probably aware this grip does not have a screw to hold the grip onto the weapon.  I could surely experiment and find a way to remove the grip, but I do not want to scratch or deface the gun.  Thanks,

My 340 came with a little tool to slip between the grip & frame to remove the grips.

Thanks guys for your response.  I purchased two 340 Pd's; one for myself and one for my wife, neither came with the tool.  I will contact S&W and request that they send me the implement.  Again, thanks for the help.

As an afterthought.  My wife who enjoys shooting her 640, in no way enjoys shooting her 340 PD.  The light weight and resulting kick of the 340 has turned her off to this gun.  Perhaps I can get it back from her?!?

I love the 340 for carry. It is not bad with any 38 load, but it is not at all pleasant with any 357 load. I practice with lots of 38s, then finish with a few 357s.

Joe52, I also find the 340 great for carry in several different carry modes.  I find that as a result of having shot hot .44 mags in the past and now concentrating on a John Linebaugh .475 with 420 gr. hard cast bullets moving at either 1,000 f.p.s. and then at 1,400 f.p.s. that the 340 is no longer that much of a 'dragon' to shoot.  It turns out that most all things are relative and therefore the "big boomers" such as the hot loaded .475s make the "somewhat big boomers" such as the hot loaded 340 PD's less awful to handle at least IMHO.  Regards,
