cz 550 fs 9.3x62??
« on: April 28, 2007, 05:41:45 AM »
a while ago i ordered one of these rifles.i have purchased dies, bullets, brass to load for it ,but now i have come to the realization that it doesn't fit me.it was fine while shooting off the bench but i can't seem to hit very well off-hand.the scope is mounted too high and there is just too much drop in the stock,it puts my cheek too far up,just doesn't feel comfortable.i think i am going to sell/trade it.i am considering the 550 american, although i am still worried about the scope mounting height.i know that rifle was intended to be used with the open sights primarily, but i prefer the scope.any one with any suggestions,i would appreciate it.thanks, adker

I would keep the rifle and pick up a new stock, either laminate or synthetic.

I plan on doing this with the same rifle as I want the short barrel and rifle sights combined with QD mounts.

You could buy the CZ american but you loose these features and pay the same money.

I was planning on putting a regular style half stock on it.

I am not aware of anyone making a FL stock for the CZ550.

i am still afraid the scope is going to be mounted too high.i'm afraid i am going to have to part with it.other than the fit,i have no complaints with the rifle, real nice piece.just no point in keepin' it if i don't shoot it well.i like the cartridge too, maybe i'll look for a ,plug your ears now, ruger 77 in that caliber i think they made them for a while.thanks for stock idea though predator, maybe i can find a stock with enough comb to make up for the high mounts,i'll have to check into it.later, adker

Adirondecker, I am sorry to hear the gun doesn't fit you.  I have the same firearm with a Monarch 1.5-4.5 , (6596) dangerous game.  The scope has wide view and long eye relief.  I mounted the scope about as far back as possible and it fits me just perfect!  I think the Monarch 1.5-4.5 is very forgiving as to where you can bring the gun up to fit you.  I don't know how you would try this but it works just great.  The gun is so accurate I am amazed for a big bullet and a 20 1/2 " bullet!  I know everyone has there favorite scopes and I have many different brands.  I think the key is wide field of view and long eye relief and lower power.     Thanks   Buckfever

Ya, I have the same rifle with a 3-10x40mm Weaver Grand Slam on it...  Yup, this is a Euro gun and Europeans, I do believe, shoot with their head more verticle than we Americans.  I have the same gun in 6.5 and changed my rifle mount so it is no big deal.  If you are not comfortable doing this, you can always get the laced comb pad that will raise the comb for you.
As for a stock, I would call CZ and ask them if any of the "standard" secondary mauser stocks would fit.  Who knows, maybe the Interarms Mauser X will work?  Good Luck!

i appreciate all the help, but i traded this rifle off to another gbo member last week.there was no sense keeping it around i have a bunch of other rifles that fit me comfortably without any special rifle prosthetics.a shame though i really liked the rifle. i was going to order a 550 american but the ring height still worries me.anyway;s thanks again, adker
